Im looking for a pin or brooch. I would like the pin to be about 3" long with two to three rows of diamonds. I do not want any designs on it and want it to be affordable. Does anybody know where I can find one?

For Muslim girls: what is ur favorite way of wearing the hijab?

I like to wrap one side around my head and keep it intact with a brooch or pin.
Ok, first of all, hijab and burka are NOT symbols of slavery and such. It preserves the dignity. Hijab is for the soul as well as the body. Now I wear the hijab + burka, and that doesnmake me feel oppressed. In fact , it t doesnt stop me from doing anything. For the last two years I had been wearing hijab, i had been getting more respect from the people i meet wherever i go (allhamdullillah).
Regarding my question, there are many ways girls wear their hijab (in a way it actually does cover their hair.)

As i m from a muslim family..i hav been tought since i was a kid to cover myself properly…though i dont wear a borkha..but i hav made a habbit of covering my head always…i cover my head with the orna that i wear with my salwar kamiz….most of my ornas are opaque and quite broad that not only covers my head it also covers my body…
But i usually like borkha…coz its a perfect form of hizab and smart too.

Thrift finds: Vintage brooches

Here are some vintage finds from the Salvation Army and Value Village. I love to go thrifting once every week or two. It’s nice to spend a few hours digging around for treasures. I can be a lot of fun and the good thing is that it’s not expensive…

need help on Halloween costume, I need a jewelry maker, or something?

Hi, I know its early but this costume is turning out to be a bigger project then what I thought. I am going to be Tim Burton’s Willy Wonka, and I almost have it finished. But there is a big problem. I cannot find the "W" brooch/pin he wears on his collar, and its driving me up the wall. I tried buying one from Sith Camaro the costume maker, but he tried to scam me from my money. I found someone else explaining how they made one:
"I have to talk for just a quick second about the W brooch. It’s not very apparent on Johnny Depp above, but he does wear a brooch throughout the movie. So the big question was, how would I get a brooch? On eBay there were some replicas going for $60 each, but there was no way I was going to buy one of those (even though they did look spot on). What I ended up doing is making my brooch with polymer clay. It cost only $2 and I just had to cut out the W and then bake it (making sure to put some string holes on the back for a piece of black string to go through to make it into a necklace). It was the first time I’d ever used polymer clay (the two most common brands are Fimo and Sculptey, I used the latter). I was quite proud of the outcome."

Vintage Pin Collection

Hello Everyone! Here is my first video in a series I plan to do on vintage collections and thrift store “treasures”. Most of these pins were either purchased from a thrift store or given to me by my grandmother. Forgive me for any shakiness or bad camera angles…I’ll improve, I promise Upcoming videos will include my vintage jewellery, clothing, wedding dress, purse, and mirrored compact collections!!! First date outfit – date is in the afternoon. Opinions or suggestions?

I’m a bit out of touch with the whole date business but I have what I think constitutes a date on Saturday afternoon. He’s a bit of a metaller I suppose but aside from my dark purple hair (and the tattoo’s!) I’m not seriously alternative.

We’re going for coffee and are meeting at midday. I was planning on wearing my usual dress over jeans combo – this would be a black dress with hearts printed all over it over navy bootcut jeans, black cardigan with a funky brooch pinned to the front (unless it’s pouring down and I have to wear a coat, in which case it’ll be a dark brown & black checkered frock coat). I was planning on wearing my red (low) heels and taking my red shoulder bag.

Opinions or suggestions? Also, if it is raining is it acceptable to wear a hat – knitted beret? Reassure me!

What ever you feel comfortable in. Don’t try and dress to match his style if he’s seriously alternative and you’re not. Just be comfortable, it’s you not your outfit that should make a long lasting impression

it’s a lady standing in the middle of two globes with grid marks either side. the globes are coloured blue with blots of silver here and there. half way up the sides is a chain of leaves. the lady is holding a long handled fork. she is coloured silver. and standing on a bed of leaves. in a dark blue coloured background is the date 22/6/1911. on the back it is hallmarked. it has a pin, so is it a brooch or is it a badge. it measures approx 2 inches across and about 1 and a half inches height. It was amongst my late grandmother’s things. she wasn’t born until 1922. does anybody know of it’s history and why it was awarded to anybody. which war was it awarded to. please, any history would be grateful. i went to get it valued and the gentleman said he had never seen anything like it before. also i have looked in many books and web sites at medals and badges but can not find this particular medal. thankyou.

I would suggest that this was a badge issued to commemorate the ascension to the throne of King George V, who was crowned on June 22, 1911. The "lady . . . holding a long-handled fork" is Britannia, the symbol Great Britain, who is usually shown wearing a helmet and holding a trident (the "fork"). The trident is a symbol of the ancient Greek god Poseidon, the god of the sea, and represents the importance of sea power to the far-flung British Empire. The Empire is represented by the "two globes," probably depictions of the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, both of which contained parts of an empire so vast that it was said that the "sun never set" upon it. The "blots of silver" are probably representations of the various land masses in those hemispheres.

I have included a link to a picture of "Britannia" on a coin with which you can compare the image on your badge. I have also included an ebay link to some King George V memorabilia. You might try contacting some of the sellers to see if they can shed any more light on the origin of your piece.
