I have some jewelry to sell..some of it fine, some of it costume and some of it in between. Any suggestions on where the best place to go would be? I don’t trust all those commercials for mailing your things in and then they pay you, so please don’t suggest that. And I would hate to take all this jewelry to a pawn shop..that is my last resort.

Do jewelry stores buy jewelry from regular people? I would like the most value I can get out of it, as I said some it was not cheap at all. It’s a mix of: gold, white gold, bronze, silver, diamonds, other stones (emerald, ruby, etc), watches, necklaces, bracelets, Avon jewelry, rings, pins, broaches.

Any real answers are appreciated, thanks in advance!

Around here, jewelry shops only sell, they don’t buy and if they do buy, they only pay scrap value since they don’t sell second hand.

You need to find a second hand shop, but they won’t pay you much because they want to earn bucks selling your jewelry on to someone else.

I would try and sell in on an online auction site like ebay or rubylane or etsy. But you wont ever get more than half of what you paid for it, probably even less.

Good luck.

i have all my belts and jewelry pinned on a black board that’s hung on my wall but it’s getting a little annoying now…….is there an easier way where it’s real easy to take your accessories out?

Well, I’ve got my stuff in trays and boxes. you can get plastic trays from Target or Walmart or something and small boxes too. line them with tissues then lay out your jewelry. Make one box for earrings, one for bracelets and so on. If you have a lot of jewelry that could get scratched, as I do, use Ziploc sandwich bags – put the jewelry piece in the ziploc bag then put it in the tray/box. I find this better than wrapping in tissue because I don’t have to unwrap it to see which item I need to use. Roll the belts and use plastic ties to keep them in place. twist the ties loosely so the belts don’t get marked. stack them in a drawer or box.

This is a really economic way to organise your accessories so you can spend money on accessories and not on pretty things to keep them in.

Making jewelry atm, and I can’t find any way to make modified studs and such. So I was wondering, can you use one of those pin things as a stud? as in, stick it through your ear, the flat bit would be the bit thats seen, and cut it down to size and stick a normal earing back onto it? Is this safe/hygenic?
Thanks

I would recommend that this is not safe for most women because the cheap metal that the headpins are made out of will irritate the ear. With ear piercings, many women are more sensitive to the metal of the earrings than they are to just what they wear against their skin on a necklace, bracelet, etc. Also, there may be sharp edges on the end of the headpin and the head portion of a headpin probably isn’t large enough to attach jewelry to or to prevent the earring from slipping into the piercing.

If you go to a shop that sells jewelry supplies, you can usually find blank earring studs. They will have the earring post, earring back, and on the front of the post there will be a small flat back for adhering the jewelry part of the earring. They also sell a variety of earring blanks for dangling earrings, hoops, french hoops, and other styles. If you cannot find them locally, search online. You should be able to get a bag of a few pairs for about $3 and up, depending on the quality of the metal in the posts.

I have always shyed away from navy blue just b/c its so hard to find stuff to go w/it, but w/my new job and a need for an expanded biz wardrobe I decided to buy a navy suit. Also I have a grey pin stripe suit and am shopping for a solid grey suit. Any tips for bag/shoes/shirt/jewelry for any of the above?

For shoes try darker shades of red–like burgundy–for a change. If it’s a professional job where you’ll need to carry a briefcase or portfolio, find one that doubles as a purse–room for your cell phone, credit cards, license, etc. Some have change purses or checkbook covers you can get for an additional price. You might want to look in the T. Shipley or Levengers catalogs (they’re on line also) for suggestions. Most of them aren’t that expensive. You can get one a burgundy shade or a more traditional tan/brown or black.

Try bright (but not neon) colors for tops/blouses underneath the suits. Yellow and emerald green are good colors for gray. Yellow–if it’s a subtle shade–goes well with navy. If you intend to keep the jacket buttoned, try camis with a little subtle lace at the neckline. Otherwise, blouses or tops that will drape nicely are good choices–you don’t want something tight that will cling to your abdomen if that’s a problem area for you if the jacket is undone.

Ruffles seem to be in this year. I noticed quite a bit in Bloomingdales and Neiman Marcus. If you want one, try it on with the suit to make sure you don’t look like a Tudor queen. It may make a full face even rounder looking. Personally I don’t like ruffles at the wrist–they make you look like you’re ready to go fencing. Plus they catch on things on the desk.

Pearls are always a nice choice–but make sure they’re good quality so they don’t "peel". Avoid pearls with diamonds since that’s mostly an evening piece. Gold is in this year. Clunky seems to be on the way out.

Look for tops that go well with either the navy or gray outfits. Changing jewelry or adding a scarf or other accessory can make the blouse, etc. seem like a new piece of wardrobe.

Have fun shopping. Oh, and don’t hesitate to ask for help–not necessarily a sales associate, but maybe a woman who is also shopping the same time as you who has a style that you like. If you’re lucky enough to have a friend like this, invite her along.
