Yes. This doesn’t matter for ordinary people. Nobody cares if you’re at the ballgame and you’re scratching yourself while they play the national anthem or you don’t wear a flag pin.

It’s different for public officials or for those in "ceremonial" positions.
Sorry, it just is. People expect them to play a certain role.
The protocol of the situation requires that you do certain things, act in a certain way or wear certain symbols.
Each country has its "flag pin." Most countries have flag pins that have their own flag with the flags of other countries – crossed – to show bonds of friendship. When you meet with officials of that country, it’s a common gift and you put it on and wear it.
When you are on the dias or stage at an event and your national anthem is played, you perform the appropriate ritual that is expected.

If you are not prepared to do this, don’t run for public office.
If you are not prepared to do this, don’t marry a politician or don’t appear with him/her in public.

It’s not a question of patriotism.
It’s a question of knowing proper behavior.
You should be humble enough to accept that you have a role that is expected of you as a public figure by the people.
Deal with it or be ready to get criticized because you will be.
No explanation is ever good enough for your arrogance.

Is a flag pin kind of like a patriotism prop?

I see politicians wearing flag pins. Does that mean they’re all SUPER patriotic? Should people show their patriotism more by their actions or more by using a prop like a flag pin? I see lot’s of folks wearing those pins that have done a lot of HARM to this country. I’m not sure the pin means much.
Taco, we’re talking about a flag PIN, not the starts and stripes. Do you think it means you are a patriot to wear the pin?

A cheap tin pin that is made in China should not determine patriotism. If I put on a sombrero, does that make me a Mexican? No. So neither should a flag pin be connotated with being an American.

I have three yellow ribbons (support our troops!) and two redwiteblue ribbons on my bag, two flag pins, and my dad drives a truck (red). My friend Becky has only ONE yellow ribbon, a PINK ribbon, NO flag pins, but she has a button that says "God bless America." So she says she is MORE patriotic.!!

AND I heard from my mom that Beckys neighbor’s dad said that he wasnt sure he agree with Bush (the PRESIDENT) on the war.

We have been argueing but I think its obvious: I AM MORE PATRIOTIC then her! You agree?
But I DO write leters to troops thanking amd blessing them for killing bad evil godhaters over there. And I clap and yell louder than anyone whenever troops come home or on tv or bush is on tv. And I yell as loud as i can to tell un-usa antiwar people to SHUT UP because this USA is not for them and if they dont agree with PRESIDENT, our leader and master lord, then they need to LEAVE. They hate America land of free and so HATE them (wish they DIE)! ONLY true americans like me should be here. God bless ! USA.!

Of course you’re more patriotic. You are obviously the better consumer. Many more ribbons and things and your dad uses more fuel. The more you spend the better our economy is and that is good for the country. SHOP ON!

Did you know that iraq veterans have to wait 180 days just to receive care or attention for thier PTS? They are committing suicide at an extremely high rate. Exactly how patriotic are Americans? Flag pin gains massive media discussions and outrage but where is the massive attention and outrage for the injustice being metted out to the Veterans?
Bill C you might have gotten lucky but please do not diminish the anguish of many, such as Miss Scarlett’s brother.

Oh, believe me, I live with it.
It took six months AFTER my brother got hit by an IED to even get brain scans. Then another 6 weeks to diagnose the brain damage. Then another 2 months to start the occupational therapy. And that isn’t even counting the PTSD, or nerve damage in his back. The USMC drags their goddamn feet on everything and has made his life a living hell since he got back. So much for showing gratitude for our troops!

He was recently weeks away from a medical discharge, and got set back ALL OVER because-someone LOST ALL OF HIS MEDICAL PAPERWORK. If you ask me, it was intentional, because they’re having so much fun screwing with him.

And people want to complain about a stupid flag pin. Get your flippin’ priorities in check, would you?!
