You know christmas is all about sharing good times with family and close friends.all we really want to know is that were all loved! Keep the holidays simple!! Christmas is very magical for me.there is so much going on event wise during the holidays just watch your local newspapers for all the events listed and local charites whom offer many great free!!! christmas meals to share with your families..but some do request rsvp..so many great cooks whom make such great foods and lavish desserts..in keeping the holidays simple some suggestions are; 1.make up home baked holiday treats from cookies,to mini holiday cakes,to home made candies, caramel apples,pizza cookies,home made breads, jams or jellies,or home baked ice cream cone cakes are always fun to give,and recieve…Do you realize there are so many budget friendly stores for those of us on tight budgets as i am..for me my favorite places to shop when i have some cash on hand are: 1.pier 1 imports clearance items
2.dollar general stores
3.dollar tree stores
4.family dollar stores
5.Big Lot stores
6.target dollar spot items
7.save -a-lot grocery stores have a whole dollar section and a numerous assortment of really neat finds.for just a buck! from mens and womans winter hat and gloves to give as sets,to socks,to dvd classic movies so why not make a movie night gift basket filled with classic dvd movies.. or another budget simple friendly idea for all the men on your list is make up poker gift baskets filled with the poker hand book,the decks of cards,the dice,and the poker chips ,etc…(shh my son is getting this this year)!!that they will wow over!!
another budget friendly idea for all the cooks on your list is too buy a inexpensive metal sifter and fill it with tools we need…

another suggestion i really enjoy is shopping at only the dollar general store .as i favor there holiday scented candles in a jar for $1.00 there the best.. then buy some holiday printed sacks.some bows,the tags,perhaps some boxes of candy canes to add to front of package.needless to say slip one holiday scented candle per bag..and what a clever inexpensive holiday gift to give and recieve..or if you do not enjoy giving holiday scented candles why not use inexpensive photo frames in stead of the scented holiday candles.

even family fare dollar grocery stores have dollar rack of cosmetics why not give sets of cosmetics or sets of professional make up brushes to give for the gals on your list…

buy bulk candies from meigers to give as holiday treats fill a cup or holiday container of…

and it also helps greatly to if you have not already do start a holiday gift container to watch for neat non food itemes to fill in it with as you fined em for dirt cheap clearance prices while shopping all year long really helps me out too…so the reason i wrote this is because last night i tried to answere some one whom was broke but yahoo had troubles last night ..one can only hope this finds its way to her as well..wishing you all a very joyous holiday season…

I have several antique pins and brooches. The obvious ones are marked 925 but there are many that are not marked. None of them stick to magnets and all are heavy for their size. And, as far as I can see, none of the metal has been chipped away to expose a possible secondary metal underneath.

I do have one piece, however, that seems to be tarnished in a small area, but will not come off with my polishing cloth. It doesn’t stick to a magnet either. How can I tell if they are the real thing?

Also, will testing it damage the jewelry – especially if it’s not real silver? If they’re not silver, what metal could they possibly have used that won’t stick to a magnet?

Only iron and iron alloys stick to a magnet. The base metal in plated jewelry is usually a copper alloy that contains various other metals such as tin and nickel.

You could look up a silversmith (or goldsmith) and ask them to test your pieces. One way to do this is to scrape a tiny amount of metal from an unobtrusive place in the piece. That way s/he can tell if the piece is plated. Then s/he’ll put a drop of nitric acid on the scrapings to tell the purity of the silver.

The piece that’s tarnished might have been further plated with rhodium, a metal that increases the luster of silver and provides a durable coating. The coating might have worn off and left a spot that stands out. Also, it could be that the piece is base metal, and the silver plating has worn off. Copper alloys oxidize (blacken) easily, that’s why copper and bronze jewelry have to be protected by a special lacquer.

I think acid and citrus colours are on the way in, with many over brights and retro style prints. This springs to summer must have accessory will be badges, brooches and pins, bright jewels along with strappy slingback sandals, more in your face stripes and the odd ball trend of old skool meets 90’s.

Oh my god i had no idea, i bought one of those House of Holland t shirts the other day in Urban Outfitters and had no idea it was one of his. It’s the Stella McCartney one. I wanted the Alezander McQueen one but it was in bloody pink.

As for the fashion predictions. Bright colours have been in since D+G’s Spring collection last year, and MiuMiu, Prada, Pucci and Gucci have been doing retro prints for like the past 4 or 5 seasons. Same with the badges, brooches etc, they’ve been there a few seasons already, hence them trickling down to the high street stores, so that noone can walk into a TopShop or Selfridges without being bombarded with brooches the size of bowling balls.
I think the thing you said about the early 90s, that would be cool to see that coming back. That was hot.
