He did this and when a fuss started to arise he said he forgot, like all 12 times? And I may be wrong but I thought the Washington Post brought this out. Then there is a picture of his headquarters that has no American flag but a Mexican one. You can look this up that his visits include a lot of enemy leaders but hes unwilliing to meet with our allies actually refusing to meet with that General Portaous however you spell it. His wife is only now proud of America after saying it twice so no slip. And what about all his connections with these people that have known terrorist connections and other antiAmerican dealings like Bill Avery was it?

Yes. This doesn’t matter for ordinary people. Nobody cares if you’re at the ballgame and you’re scratching yourself while they play the national anthem or you don’t wear a flag pin.

It’s different for public officials or for those in "ceremonial" positions.
Sorry, it just is. People expect them to play a certain role.
The protocol of the situation requires that you do certain things, act in a certain way or wear certain symbols.
Each country has its "flag pin." Most countries have flag pins that have their own flag with the flags of other countries – crossed – to show bonds of friendship. When you meet with officials of that country, it’s a common gift and you put it on and wear it.
When you are on the dias or stage at an event and your national anthem is played, you perform the appropriate ritual that is expected.

If you are not prepared to do this, don’t run for public office.
If you are not prepared to do this, don’t marry a politician or don’t appear with him/her in public.

It’s not a question of patriotism.
It’s a question of knowing proper behavior.
You should be humble enough to accept that you have a role that is expected of you as a public figure by the people.
Deal with it or be ready to get criticized because you will be.
No explanation is ever good enough for your arrogance.

His standing there in full view and, as a career politician and someone who wishes to lead all Americans, NOT placing his hand over his heart as the flag passed, as is a long long tradition of respect – - it was to this American just astoundingly disrespectful to the country, to all service men and women past and present, and to fellow Americans.

Now, either he understands that he was that disrespectful, OR . . . he doesn’t. And either of those is unacceptable in someone who wants to be president.

When I was growing up (in the 60’s) – kids raised with manners and class were taught to put their hands over their hearts – and why. That Obama doesn’t get it says a lot about his lack of upbringing and class. (I was born in the same year as he was, btw.)

Well, aside from the occasional slips of tongue, no, but we do have solid proof he is an lying asshole, and that is reason enough not to vote for him.

How can any sane black man place his hand over his heart for a country which claims to be democratic but killed his spokespersons, ran his movement underground (civil rights, etc.) and uses racist code words in a presidential campaign?

He better be tapping his bullet proof vest, make sure he has it on, is what I think, cause America out to get him!

The tradition is that you place your hand over your heart when saying the pledge of allegiance to the flag. But, some people also do so when singing the national anthem. Barack Obama was shown singing the national anthem without placing his hand over his heart. Big deal. It means nothing. As for the flag pin, he has said that he would rather show his patriotism with acts than with a fashion statement. Too often flag pins and bumper stickers are substituted for real patriotism. Barack Obama does occasionally wear a flag pin when he feels it is appropriate.

There is a video that has been posted on here and on you tube etc. It features Obama at some campaining type event and while a woman sings the national anthem he was seen standing with his hands to his sides while those arond him put their hands over their hearts. He was supposedly given a flag pin but did not put it on and while others wore a flag pin he did not.
