Is it true that ABC has banned reporters from wearing American flag lapel pins?
As of 2001, it’s true.
"According to ABC spokesman Jeffrey Schneider, the network saw it as necessary to protect its reporters’ credibility…"
If they’re concerned about credibility, they might try some thorough, unbiased, *real* journalism.
edit: Don’t mind the thumbs down. Those are just the trolls who have nothing better to do than follow me around YA. And they’re too lazy to google this crap for themselves.

Who’s a REAL American?
The healthcare reform debate has gotten ugly. The collapsed economy and the subsequent bailouts (started by Republicans and continued by Democrats) has caused some people to fear that the government wants control of too many things–even though the banks and car industries came to Washington begging for help. Some people, even some of those covered by Medicare, are deeply suspicious of government involvement in the health care delivery system. I can understand some of the problems people may have with the bill, but I confess, I can’t understand the more outrageous accusations and suspicions. While in Dallas, I attended only one rally. I couldn’t take much more than that. The organizers of the pro-reform rally asked people to march silently, without engaging in arguments with those against the reform bill. Many of those against the bill were rational and were even in favor some reform measures. Others were over the top, passing out photoshop images of Obama and Hitler smling at each other. When I told one of these that I didn’t want the picture or the literature, he called me “stupid”. Others stood near the silent protesters jeering and insulting, calling us communists, marxists, socialists, leeches and unPatriotic. They asked if we were ashamed to wear flag pins or wave the flag (regardless of the fact that the posters were very pro-American and some had the American flag as a background.)
I tried to talk to some people on the other side to get their ideas. As I said, some were reasonable and did seem concerned about Americans without insurance. I didn’t put the unreasonable people on this tape because I wanted to make a point. I think that we pro-reformers often think that all anti-reformers don’t care about Americans because we don’t agree with their ideas on reform. And the anti-reform group seems to think that we don’t care about America because they don’t agree with our ideas on reform.
I’m not professing to be totally objective–I’m pro-reform and solidly for a public option. It seems to me that there are a lot of lies and misconceptions propagated by the insurance industry and other special interests to stop any progress on real reform. It is sad that we are often dealing with these lies (death panels, killing granny, etc.) instead of working together for a real solution. Whatever the case may be, it is depressing to see Americans accusing each other and shouting at each other. It is just sad. How much better it would be if we gave each other the benefit of the doubt and listened objectively to the real concerns of our fellow-Americans.
